Hi folks, this is a ressource page for M1 & M2 students with details of our Langue Orale à Vocation Professionnelle/ Outils pour analyse textuelle et iconographique….
What a mouthful! But let’s put it more simply.
My brief here is to give you space to ‘improve’ your spoken English in whatsoever frame you find yourself : in a classroom situation, an interview, an oral exam, a presentation with obviously an eye kept firmly on the CAPES exam in M2. We will be working on various techniques to improve your prononciation, your delivery, your rhythm, your “musicalité” etc. This will mean participating in public speaking exercises, reading aloud, theatre excerpts, singing (yes, I mean it) improvisation, debates, question games and contests (look up ‘Just a Minute’ on BBC Radio 4 Sounds).
Martine Fade and I co teach this class : We will be focussing on more cultural, contemporary topics to be presented and discussed, with an eye or even two firmly on the CAPES oral exam and will be focussing on how these and other topics might be used in class with the appropriate aids and devices for presentation, video, audio, pictorial etc. Our 2 hour classes, when in front of the students, were one week led by Martine, one week by Ellen; Martine dealing with the odd weeks, (1,3,5..) and I took the even weeks (2,4,6…)
For me, I suggest that you either : create a 8 person Google Drive group (you all, Martine and me) and then send us the link to your dossier so everyone can see and share ; or each create your own YouTube channel, upload your video and send everyone the link thereto (when you upload your file, you can choose to make it public (I wouldn’t advise this as it’s work in progress) or available ONLY to the people to whom you send the said link. That way, you protect it from prying eyes.
For both of these options you will need a Gmail address, but judging from the meeting last Thursday, most of you already have one. Establish a Gmail address that has your name in it, and as the majority of the Gmail account holders are not French, you stand a good chance of getting something close to your name. You can also use this then as a professional account later on, if you need to. NB : If you use funnybunny68@ or goldilocks@ (I have seen both!) then a prospective employer will laugh their socks off, if they even get the mail, but you won’t get the job! Keep your private jokes private!
